Today, the 2nd year Webelos went camping with Tullahoma Boy Scout Troop 158 at the property of Asst. Scoutmaster Gary Fergus. We had a wonderful time! Under the direction of the Boy Scouts, the Webelos erected a teepee which they later slept in. They then learned to tie the two half hitches knot and the tautline hitch knot. Then they erected a WWII pup tent using just rope and the knots they learned.
After a few short games with the older Scouts, they learned to use a bow saw and each pair of boys cut a slab from a downed tree. I think they have a renewed respect for the early pioneers!
The boys then took a quick lesson in shooting an air rifle and then participated in a biathlon event where they fired the air rifle at a target, ran about 1/4 mile, and then fired 5 more shots while their heart rate was elevated. They'll all make fine snipers some day if called upon.
In the evening, we built a campfire...

Today, the Den #2 Webelos went to Old Stone Fort State Park for a picnic and a hike. We cooked chili cheese hotdogs on the park BBQ grills and sang songs and then went to the rangers station. There was a slight mishap here when the Scoutmaster locked his keys in his truck (he said the wind blew his truck door closed....sure! :) But, with the help of a resourceful and large muscle challenged Tiger Cub we were able to recover and move on. We then took a three mile hike around the perimeter of the park and observed trees, plants, and animals along the way. The weather was perfect. Everyone had a great time and learned plenty doing it. After the hike Ranger Ward Weems gave us a little history of the area and demonstrated his traditional blow gun and grills. Very neat!We also took the opportunity to announce the assignment of Denner and Assistant Denner leadership positions to our first holders of these positions. What a help these guys were in coordinating the boys and helping the leaders out. Thanks guys!...

Today, the Den #2 Webelos visited a Habitat for Humanity construction site in order to complete some of their Engineer Activity Pin achievements. Mr. Watts described the process involved in planning and constructing a home and Mr. Baxter taught us about electrical circuits and power generation. And I think the lesson that the Scouts will remember the most is "Don't eat the dirt!".
In a future meeting we will be building a catapult to complete the pin. I can't wait for that! Who wants to be tossed over the castle wall first?

This weekend we had our annual Cub & Partner campout at Camp Arrowhead. The weather was perfect and so was the event. The day was spent having fun while completing some achievement requirements and the night was spent singing songs, watching skits and just relaxing around the fire. The boys had a good time playing flashlight capture-the-flag and looking for "shooting stars". I don't think we could have planned a better weekend. Thanks to everyone involved in making this a success!!!

Today we held our Aviation Pack Meeting at the Staggerwing Museum in Tullahoma. We had a very educational tour of the facility and learned everything and more about Beechcraft Staggerwing airplanes and others. The recent expansions to the museum have greatly increased the size of the museum and the number of planes on display. Thanks a million to the fine folks at the museum who hosted us.
At the meeting, we also held our Bobcat badge promotion ceremony. Congratuations to all the Scouts who advanced!
